The Opportunity:

Avantor is looking for a Laboratory & Logistics Operative to join the team based in Slough, UK . In this position you’ll take ownership of laboratory operations by supporting areas and equipment on site which hold temperature-controlled samples and materials, such as Cold Rooms, Fridges, Freezers and Incubators

Previous experience in a scientific or laboratory environment, and/or a scientific degree is not a requirement for this role! We’ll consider applicants from other industries as full training is provided. Maybe you’re working in logistics, hospitality or retail but have an interest in science, this could be your opportunity to transition your career into the laboratory world!

This role will be a full-time, permanent position based at our customer site in Slough (Bath Rd, SL1 3WE). Next to an attractive salary, we offer multiple benefits such as pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and additional day off for your birthday.

Working hours : Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 16:30

The Team

You’ll belong to our business department Lab and Product Services, which supports big pharmaceutical companies and laboratories all over the world, in Research and Development within the Life Sciences industry.

What we’re looking for

  • Education: GCSE or equivalent secondary school qualification
  • Experience:
  • Experience of working in warehousing or stores in desirable
  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment and knowledge of SHE requirement is an advantage, but not essential
  • Proven excellent customer service focus and ability to work collaboratively
  • Proficient in various IT systems particularly Microsoft Excel and SAP or similar stock management system experience is desirable

How you’ll thrive and create an impact

  • Carrying out routine inventory stock checks and management for samples and materials stored in temperature-controlled storage – such as Cold Rooms, Fridges, Freezers and Incubators
  • Performing routine housekeeping of fridges, freezers and cold rooms – such as defrosts, function checks, temperature checks
  • Preparations of media and standard reagents as required and maintain stocks of both sterile and non-sterile consumable items within the laboratories
  • Provide regular glassware and plastics collection, washing and, sterilisation services (steam, dry or filtration) for the scientists to use within the laboratories
  • Be a Single Point of Contact for Scientific teams supporting site Projects relating to temperature-controlled areas and equipment – such as improving efficiency of storage to achieve site sustainability goals
