**Please note that we are looking to recruit 1x full-time permanent post and 1x full-time, fixed term post (12 months)**

The post-holder will work as part of the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology (SYBP) Laboratory IT team providing technical support to the laboratories and their staff, working to standard operating procedures.

Typical duties will include:

• Incident management for Directorate IT systems.
• The maintenance of Laboratory Medicine IT and data transfer systems, both for in-house developed software and externally procured software.
• Support for laboratory IT projects
• First line support to external users related to connectivity and access to Laboratory results, both within the partner trust hospitals and to external customers.
• Enabling, promoting and supporting the effective use of data, information, knowledge and technology to support and improve health and health care delivery across SYBP.

Main duties of the job

Contribute to all aspects of provision of IM&T for SYBP to support its operational and business needs.

Working to established Standard Operating Procedures, provide general front line IT support on a day-to-day basis for laboratory staff encompassing all platforms and systems, investigating issues, documenting and liaising with all stakeholders

Proactively monitor the progress of incidents and service requests for timely resolution, communicating progress as appropriate with laboratory staff, partner trust IT staff and with external suppliers.

Accurately record technical and often complex information from staff and interpret this information to provide a high level of detail to other staff.

Use strong technical diagnostic and problem-solving skills to resolve issues where appropriate, escalating to senior SYBP Laboratory IT staff when required.

Routine maintenance of commercial software used within the laboratories including the Laboratory Information Management System. This includes but is not exclusive to database management of codes relating to tests, requesting locations / clinicians and user maintenance.

Ensure that systems both in-house developed, and externally procured, are tested for accuracy, performance, data quality and resilience.

Maintenance of SOPs to ensure conformance for Laboratory UKAS accreditation.

Provide documentation for software including end user documentation and SOPs to enable the support of the system.

The SYBP IT Team support all pathology disciplines across the partnership, including the departments of Cellular Pathology, Microbiology, Virology, Clinical Chemistry, Immunology, Haematology, Coagulation, POCT and Blood Transfusion. In addition, SYBP has a number of highly specialised services providing testing to regional, national and international users.

The team provide all aspects of IM&T provision, offering both technical expertise in the maintenance of systems, as well as development of innovative in-house systems to support the work of the departments in conjunction with local and partner Trusts IT colleagues, as well as other IT professionals.

Qualifications
  • GCSE English and Mathematics Grade 9/A-4/C (or Equivalent).
  • Level 4 qualification, HNC/HND, Higher Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 4, Foundation Degree or equivalent in an IT or science related field or relevant experience
  • Qualification in advanced IT Use (e.g. Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS): Excel, Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS): Access).
  • Project Management Qualification.
  • Additional software training.
Experience
  • Highly competent in the full suite of Microsoft Office Packages.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware/software gained through study or practical experience.
