We are currently seeking an interim Laboratory Coordinator to work with our global FMCG client Unilever, renowned for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple. This role offers an opportunity to become an integral part of their fast-paced FMCG environment.
The position is based at our client’s scientific Research & Development facility in Port Sunlight Village, Wirral, easily accessible by train and car. It is a full-time temporary role for 12 months, requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Compensation is competitive, up to £29,719 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience.

Role overview:
Coordination and preparation of fragrance evaluations on behalf of the HC Fragrance Team, ensuring standard and safe operating practices.
Duties include:
Coordination
- Work closely with fragrance experts to plan upcoming fragrance evaluation requirements. Book washing machines, booths, lab space, prepare test cloths, and wash loads. Order and chase samples from project teams and perfume houses. Ensure all assessors and project teams are invited and can attend assessments.
- Maintain stock for ballast loads and monitors, ordering as needed.
- Maintain the benchmark library of products, updating by ordering new products and disposing of old ones. Register products in the database.
- Maintain the fragrance oil library, updating by ordering new oils and disposing of old ones. Register oils into LIMS.
- Represent the fragrance team in weekly meetings with CTI Laundry Sensory Panel Leader to ensure smooth operation and cost savings.
- Book visitors at reception, order lunches, and book meeting rooms.
Preparation
- Complete Job Sheets with correct wash protocols and test requirements.
- Ensure test product samples are on site and logged into the database.
Preparation of fabrics
- Apply quality and best practices at all times.
- Desize monitors in relevant wash conditions, lay out flat to dry.
- Heat seal labels onto monitors.
- Label monitors with relevant codes.
- Desize ballast fabrics prior to use.
- Make up ballast loads to required composition.
- Order fabrics and test monitors to maintain stocks.
- Prepare samples by weighing out wash powders and fabric conditioners, labeling jars.
- Prepare water, fill tanks with demineralized water, add salts, and titrate for correct hardness.
- Perform test washes and load washing machines following protocols.
- Sort and assess test monitors post-wash.
- Prepare cloths for assessment: damp, in booths, line dried.
- Recover ballast loads for re-use, keep records, and wash sample jars for re-use.
- Track monthly project costs and suggest improvements.
Safety
- Create and maintain SOPs and Risk Assessments.
- Report safety or maintenance issues.
- Dispatch samples globally, label according to safety standards.
- Book samples with correct safety labels and identify numbers.
- Dispose of samples appropriately.
Requirements
- Awareness of safety procedures, SOPs, and risk assessments.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
