Job summary

Randox Laboratories in Warrington is seeking Laboratory Assistants for night shifts (4 on 4 off, 7pm to 7am). The role involves routine clinical testing, sample accessioning, and operating the LIMs in a busy laboratory.

The successful candidate will have at least A level in science and be willing to work nights; vaccination against Hepatitis B is required or reimbursed by Randox. This is a full-time, permanent position with opportunities to grow within the lab.

Qualifications

  • Essential: A level or equivalent in a science subject.
  • Essential: Available to work night shifts (4 on 4 off, 7pm–7am).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine clinical testing in the laboratory.
  • Use and maintenance of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Receipt and accession of samples from Randox Health clinics, external partners, and internal projects.
  • Specimen analysis, storage, and disposal following quality procedures.
  • Maintain stock control and ensure correct storage and handling of materials.
  • Record temperatures and monitor equipment performance.
  • Support preparation of specimens for transport to other analytical laboratories.

Laboratory Assistant (Night Shifts) – Warrington (Job Ref: 26/LBAS)

We have multiple opportunities for full time Laboratory Assistants at our laboratory in Warrington. In this role you will be working with samples from both our Randox Health clinics and 3rd parties in our busy laboratory.

Location

Unit 2 Bishops Court. Warrington, WA2 8QY.

Contract Offered

Full time, permanent.

Working Hours / Shifts

4 on 4 off, 7pm to 7am (night shifts).

This role will require the successful candidates to be vaccinated against Hepatitis B before commencing employment. If you don’t have this, Randox will reimburse you for the cost of being vaccinated.

Right to Work Requirement

Please note that this role requires candidates to have the legal right to work in the UK for a minimum of 12 months from the application date. This is to ensure completion of our 9-month probationary period and for any potential sponsorship decisions to be considered. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship at the point of hire.

What does this role involve?

This role is responsible for assisting with routine clinical testing in our laboratory. The main duties of the role include:

  • Routine use of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMs).
  • Receipt and accession of external, Randox Health, Clinical Trial, Internal R&D, Production, EQA and QC Samples for Analysis.
  • Specimen Analysis, Storage and Disposal.
  • Maintenance of Sample Inventory.
  • Strict adherence to chain of custody procedures throughout the analytical process.
  • Operation and Maintenance of SYSMEX XS-1000i Haematology, Urinalysis and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) analysers.
  • Ownership of External Quality Control (EQA) Schemes for Urine Dipstick, Urine Chemistries and Full Blood Count involving the review, filing and storage of quality control records.
  • Maintenance of Stock Control in laboratory.
  • Removal of expired products.
  • The preparation of specimens for transportation to ensure that their stability is safeguarded during shipment to the appropriate analytical laboratory.
  • Recording and monitoring of temperatures for laboratory equipment.
Who can apply?
Essential criteria:
  • Qualified to at least A level or equivalent in a science subject.
  • Available to work the night shifts mentioned above.
  • Ability to work as a team member of a cross-functional team.
  • String attention to detail skills.
  • Be computer literate.
Desirable:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, or a life science.
  • Previous laboratory experience.
  • Previous experience of quality systems.
