Job description

GI Group are looking for a Laboratory Assistant for a leading FMCG manufacturer in West Yorkshire.

Hours: 7 am to 7 pm and 7 pm to 7 am

Pay rate: £15.87 per hour

Duration: Temporary ongoing, long term

Job Purpose

To carry out analytical checks on syrups and finished products to ensure product quality. Perform other service tasks to support the efficient operation of the production department.

Principal Responsibilities
  1. Collect samples from manufacturing.
  2. Conduct standardized analytical tests on batches, samples, and complaints; interpret results, especially sugar and pH levels, and communicate findings.
  3. Perform tests on raw materials.
  4. Set up necessary instrumentation.
  5. Calculate and recommend material adjustments for the mixing department.
  6. Use Manufacturing Execution System to release syrup batches.
  7. Taste testing of finished goods to identify issues.
  8. Test customer complaints for acid and sugar levels, report findings.
  9. Check packaging and coding against specifications using SAP; communicate results and hold products if out of spec.
  10. Organize storage of retained samples and maintain high standards of housekeeping.
  11. Participate in external proficiency checks as required.
  12. Undertake basic microbiology testing, including plate pouring and incubation.
  13. Maintain accurate records and reports.
General Responsibilities
  1. Engage in lean manufacturing practices including 5S, AM, and problem solving.
  2. Ensure health and safety standards are upheld.
  3. Support the site’s values and improve quality, safety, and environmental culture.
  4. Contribute to ethical trading and human rights initiatives.
  5. Flexibility to perform additional tasks as needed.
