Job description
Responsibilities
  • Prepare, collect, process and label blood, urine, faecal and other specimens including simple laboratory procedures such as centrifugation, pipetting and weighing

  • Perform simple diagnostic laboratory tests including pregnancy tests, urinalysis, drugs of abuse

  • Supervise urine and faecal collections, measure/ weigh urine collection volumes/weights, weigh faecal collections

  • Use and maintain laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, scales) safely and in accordance with relevant SOPs

  • Order and liaise with couriers to arrange sample shipments

  • Perform assays including ELISA, RT-PCR

  • Complete CRFs, laboratory records and capture other trial data as required

  • Collate CRFs, laboratory and other results and perform quality control checks to ensure they are complete and ready for review and approval by Research Physicians

  • Assist with daily maintenance of fridges and freezers and monitor temperatures through REES system and the weekly on-call system if required

  • Assist with regular maintenance, monitoring and calibration of laboratory equipment and devices

  • Assist with trial laboratory set-up and preparation, including completion of user acceptability tests ("dummy runs") and review of laboratory forms

  • Prepare trial laboratory source data for monitor and sponsor review and ensure timely resolution of queries

  • Attend relevant study meetings, deliver study specific training and actively participate in risk management and mitigation for the trail

  • Prepare and dispatch sample shipments according to approved timelines

  • Assist with laboratory related trial close out activities

Qualifications

  • Computer literate (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook)

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with enthusiasm and prioritize workload with attention to detail

  • Willingness to work in a matrix environment and to value the importance of teamwork

  • Relevant experience of laboratory in the pharmaceutical industry and/or a research institute advantageous

  • A-Level in Science subjects (minimum requirement)

  • HND or Degree advantageous
