Job description

GI Group are looking for a Laboratory Assistant for a leading FMCG manufacturer in West Yorkshire.

Job Details

Type: Temporary ongoing, long-term
Shifts: Continental shifts (7 am to 7 pm and 7 pm to 7 am)
Pay rate: £15.87 per hour

Job Purpose

To carry out analytical checks on syrups and finished products to ensure product quality, and perform other tasks to support efficient production operations.

Principal Responsibilities
  1. Collect samples from manufacturing for testing.
  2. Conduct standardized analytical tests on batches, raw materials, and samples; interpret results related to sugar and pH levels; communicate findings to production staff.
  3. Set up instrumentation and perform calculations to recommend material adjustments.
  4. Use Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to release batches and check packaging and coding accuracy using SAP.
  5. Perform taste testing of finished goods and identify issues.
  6. Report on customer complaints regarding acid and sugar levels.
  7. Maintain records, organize storage of retained samples, and ensure laboratory cleanliness.
  8. Participate in external proficiency checks and undertake basic microbiology testing.
General Responsibilities
  1. Engage in lean manufacturing practices such as 5S, AM, and root cause analysis.
  2. Prioritize health and safety, uphold site values, and support ethical trading and human rights initiatives.
  3. Flexibility in tasks as required by the business.
