Overview

Capel Manor College is seeking a Laboratory and Resource Technician to join the Animal Management department at the Enfield campus. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the science laboratory, preparing equipment and materials in support of predominately Animal Management but all subjects taught at the college and other animal practical activities. This includes cleaning, maintenance and organised storage. The ideal candidate will maintain a safe and healthy laboratory environment in compliance with statutory requirements, produce risk assessments and maintain COSHH/CLEAPS records. The candidate will also assess and monitor Health and Safety procedures followed in the laboratory. You will also support staff and students in the use of laboratory resources and contribute to a safe, efficient, and productive learning and research environment. Additionally, the role supports admin required to upkeep our zoo license at the Enfield campus, with opportunity to be involved with conservation and research programs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare equipment and materials for laboratory activities across Animal Management and other subjects taught at the college, including cleaning, maintenance and storage.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy laboratory environment in compliance with statutory requirements.

  • Assess and monitor Health and Safety procedures followed in the laboratory.
  • Support staff and students in the use of laboratory resources to contribute to a safe, efficient and productive learning and research environment.
  • Provide administrative support to upkeep the zoo license at the Enfield campus and participate in conservation and research programs when applicable.
  • Note: there is some unsocial hours working required to support the academic team during open days and evenings.
Qualifications
  • Level 3 qualification or higher in an animal science or chemistry discipline.
  • Experience working with a variety of equipment in a science laboratory.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety, COSHH and CLEAPS requirements, with a strong commitment to maintaining high and safe standards.
