Job summary

Imperial College London is seeking a Laboratory and Community Support Assistant based at the White City campus to strengthen daily operational excellence across shared laboratories, facilities and communal areas used by 26 spin-out ventures. You will work with the Lab Incubator Manager and the incubator team to enhance collaboration and support events across the ecosystem.

The role requires experience in a scientific environment, strong customer service, and excellent time management.

Qualifications

  • educated to a minimum of A Level (or equivalent).
  • completed recognised safety training.
  • experience in a scientific / laboratory environment and experience of supporting start-ups and ecosystems is desirable but not essential.
  • experience in a busy office environment.
  • demonstrate how you have provided high quality customer service, responsive to customer needs and how you have confidently dealt with issues and complaints

Responsibilities

  • Be involved in ensuring shared equipment is functioning properly.
  • Support lab waste management processes.
  • Liaise with suppliers.
  • Assist with events and their setup, inducting new occupants, and leading tours of the facilities.
  • Organise community-focused activities and support VIP visits and events.
  • Provide administrative support alongside incubator activities and remain organised while handling interruptions.

Job description

Laboratory and Community Support Assistant

The Laboratory and Community Support Assistant will play a central role in strengthening daily operational excellence across the shared laboratories, facilities and communal areas used by the Imperial White City Incubator’s 26 early-stage ventures.

Based at Imperial’s White City campus, this position will work alongside the Lab Incubator Manager and Incubator team to enhance collaboration, deliver hands‑on day to day operations and community events to Imperial College spinouts and Incubator members. The role is key to ensuring a safe, efficient, and well‑maintained working environment across the ecosystem and may be called upon to support our other incubators (based at Leap ARC Motherlabs, Hammersmith and BaseOne, North Acton).

What you would be doing

The role is varied, with responsibilities including ensuring shared equipment is functioning properly, supporting lab waste management processes, liaising with suppliers, assisting with events and their setup, inducting new occupants, and leading tours of the facilities and organising community‑focused activities and supporting VIP visits and events. The role includes administrative support alongside the other Incubator activities so you must be organised and able to manage your time whilst dealing with interruptions. A professional, friendly, and welcoming manner is essential, as the role involves interacting with people at all levels.
