Job description

Laboratory Analyst or Chemistry Graduate

Location: Newmarket

Salary: Starting from £24,000 up to £28,000 depending on experience

Hours: Days, Monday - Friday

Our client, a global testing organisation, is looking to recruit several Analysts for their environmental testing division. We are seeking Chemistry (or MChem or Forensic Chemistry with chromatography experience in degree) graduates or experienced Analysts (GC-MS, ICP, HPLC, LC-MS, etc.). Multiple levels are available based on growth potential.

Overview of the role:
  1. Perform routine and non-routine analysis (GC-MS, GC-FID, HPLC) of samples according to documented procedures, or ICP depending on the lab placement.
  2. Troubleshoot GC/HPLC instrumentation (e.g., column changes).
  3. Assist in generating accurate and timely sample and QC data in line with client expectations and QMS standards.
  4. Maintain ISO 17025 accreditation by adhering to strict testing guidelines.
  5. Meet deadlines with a commercial awareness regarding workload prioritisation.
  6. Assist in maintenance programmes for analytical instruments and other laboratory equipment.
  7. Ensure instruments are kept clean, serviced, and maintained according to procedures.
  8. Manage storage and labelling of reagents and standards.
  9. Consult with the Divisional Manager when turnaround deadlines are at risk.
The Person:
  1. Hold a degree in a relevant scientific discipline, ideally Chemistry.
  2. Have some exposure to HPLC, GC/MS, or ICP through academic or professional experience, preferably in a UKAS 17025 environment.
  3. Possess strong interpersonal skills and be IT literate.
