Laboratory Aide
Manchester
£22,932 – £25,744 per annum (dependent on experience)

Full-time (37 hours), Permanent
The Role:
We’re recruiting for a Laboratory Aide to join the Lab Services team at a leading research institute in Manchester. This hands-on role supports day-to-day operations in the laboratories, helping ensure that research teams have the clean glassware, sterile solutions, and consumables they need. It involves working with industrial lab equipment, handling deliveries, and maintaining stock and cleanliness standards. It’s a great opportunity for someone practical, well-organised and reliable, who enjoys working as part of a team and contributing to meaningful scientific work behind the scenes.
Duties:

  • Process lab glassware and plastics using industrial washers and autoclaves.
  • Assist with collection and return of glassware to and from labs.
  • Maintain and monitor equipment including autoclaves, drying ovens, and industrial washing machines.
  • Prepare sterile solutions and provide clean supplies as requested.
  • Stock and distribute lab items (glassware, tips, sterile fluids etc.) daily.
  • Keep records and manage stock levels accurately.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Act as a point of contact for lab staff and support the wider lab services team as needed.

Required Skills:

  • Previous laboratory experience along with experience of preparation of sterile solutions and media is desirable.
  • Comfortable using industrial lab equipment or willing to learn.
  • Experience in a role involving manual handling and physical duties.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow set procedures.
  • Good communication skills and a team-focused attitude.
  • Able to work safely, keep accurate records and prioritise tasks.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel).
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, English or a science subject preferred.
  • This role involves physical work, including handling heavy loads and operating equipment. A full clean driving licence and willingness to work across multiple sites is desirable.
