Job summary

Stott and May is seeking a hands-on Lab Technician to support an exciting R&D environment in Essex. You will build, assemble, modify, and test prototypes, test rigs, and demonstrator systems, ensuring high standards of quality, accuracy and safety.

The role requires operating and maintaining workshop tools, interpreting drawings, and working in a fast-paced environment with a proactive team. On-site work four days per week is expected with safety and compliance a priority.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, or multidisciplinary assembly.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation.
• Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.

Responsibilities

• Build and modify assemblies from engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
• Undertake test and measurement activities using laboratory equipment.
• Inspect builds, troubleshoot issues, and support functional testing.
• Operate and maintain workshop tools and machinery safely.
• Support continuous improvement and design for manufacturability.
• Manage laboratory materials, components, and consumables.
• Maintain a safe, organised, and compliant workshop environment.

Duration: 6 months (rolling)
Location: Essex (4-days on site per week)
Rate: DoE - inside IR35
