Lab Technician

  • Job Title: Lab Technician
  • Location: Erith
  • Pay: £15.89 PH
  • Job Type: Temporary / Full Time / 6am – 2pm
  • Startt date: ASAP

We are seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our team. This role involves performing routine chemical and physical analyses on raw materials, intermediate, and finished products to control processes, issue certificates of analysis, and ensure compliance with customer and legal requirements. The successful candidate will also be responsible for routine cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment to deliver consistent and reliable results.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Coordinate and carry out analysis of all incoming samples in all sections of the laboratory, including taste testing of finished products.
  • Follow Laboratory Procedures and Work Instructions to ensure consistent and reliable results.
  • Report results in a timely manner, notifying any deficiencies to production and relevant personnel.
  • Maintain equipment to ensure it is fit for purpose, investigate and report any failings.
  • Adhere to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) to maintain a quality system of documentation.
  • Ensure good housekeeping practices following cleaning schedules and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Liaise with other departments to minimize process interruptions.
  • Be responsible for personal safety and that of colleagues in the area.
  • Participate in auditing and training programmes positively.
  • Undertake various lab tasks as directed by the Laboratory Manager.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A level chemistry or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years laboratory experience, ideally within the food industry.
  • Experienced in GC, ICP & HPLC applications, ideally with Perkin Elmer & Dionex instruments.
  • Training in taste tests is ideal.
  • Experience in shift work is advantageous but not essential.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Office, Excel, LIMS).
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Capable of undertaking some physical activities and applying safe working practices.
  • Skilled in detecting deficiencies and taking appropriate action
