Job description

We are looking for a dedicated Lab Technician to join our Veterinary Laboratory based just outside Newbury. The position involves all aspects of a multidisciplinary laboratory analysing various animal medical samples, using the latest technologies and techniques to ensure accurate results.

Responsibilities
  1. Assist with routine procedures including daily/weekly calibrations, quality control, and start-up/shut-down of equipment.
  2. Perform laboratory tests accurately and efficiently in key diagnostic areas such as haematology, clinical chemistry, endocrinology, microbiology, serology, and molecular diagnostics.
  3. Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  4. Maintain equipment, manage stock levels of consumables, and keep the laboratory clean and organized.
  5. Coordinate with the laboratory team to ensure adequate staffing.
  6. Adhere to good laboratory practices.
  7. Perform additional duties as required, including new or different tests.

Donnington Grove Veterinary Group is a busy Equine Hospital based in Newbury, Berkshire. Our main hospital has RCVS Tier 3 status and is located in a thriving town with many restaurants and easy access to London. The area offers beautiful countryside for walks with pets. Our branches at Tadley and Thatcham are equipped for surgical procedures and digital diagnostics.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a background in bio-veterinary or veterinary science, be capable of working independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate strong attention to detail.

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in Bioveterinary Science, Veterinary Science, or a related field.
  2. Experience in a veterinary laboratory or similar environment.
  3. Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as haematology, biochemistry, molecular diagnostics, and cytology.
  4. Experience in haematology, PCR, or microbiology is an advantage.
  5. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  6. Exceptional attention to detail.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Ability to work independently and in a team.
  9. Passion for animal welfare and healthcare.
Shift Pattern

This is a full-time role of 35 hours per week, with shifts that may include occasional Saturdays and bank holidays.
