Base pay range

Job Title: Laboratory Technician (Manufacturing Engineering Environment)

Location: Blackburn, Lancashire

Hours: Full-time, 41.5 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 6:00am to 2:00pm (flexible)

Breaks: 50-minute paid lunch break

Salary: £14.63/hour

Holiday Entitlement: 25 days annual leave + 8 bank holidays

Job Purpose

To support manufacturing operations by conducting routine laboratory tests, ensuring product quality and compliance with standards. Responsibilities include maintaining records, operating equipment, and assisting with quality assurance in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products
• Accurately record and report test results
• Calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment
• Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies
• Maintain cleanliness within the laboratory
• Assist in investigations of quality issues and contribute to improvements
• Work with production and quality teams to ensure product quality
• Handle products safely according to COSHH regulations
• Participate in training and development programs

Person Specification

Essential:

• Laboratory experience in manufacturing or industrial settings or recent graduate
• Understanding of lab procedures and testing methods
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Basic IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office)
• Flexibility for early shifts

Desirable:

• Qualifications in a scientific or technical discipline (e.g., BTEC, HNC)
• Knowledge of ISO standards or quality management systems
• Experience with raw materials and lab safety practices
