Job summary

Newcastle University is seeking a Research Assistant/Research Associate to support a translational project developing an electrochromic infrared coating technology into working demonstrator devices.

The role involves laboratory-based, hands-on work, with data capture, safe practice and clear communication of results. Duration is fixed-term until 30 June 2027, supervised by the Principal Investigator and linked with the commercialisation team.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of applied materials, thin-film coatings, polymers, nanomaterials or related areas.
• Experience with nanoparticle formulations, coating/deposition and device fabrication or characterization.
• Ability to design structured experiments, record methods and results rigorously.
• Awareness of laboratory safety and responsible handling of chemicals.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimise coating formulations and device assembly processes.
• Fabricate small-area and demonstrator-scale devices in the lab.
• Carry out electrical, optical/infrared, emissivity, cycling and durability tests and maintain records.
• Prepare clear performance data packs and technical summaries for review.
• Support project coordination and procurement tracking as required.
