This Lab Engineering position in GSK R&D Tech is essential for supporting our scientific team by maintaining and optimizing laboratory computing systems. This position involves managing a global infrastructure, ensuring system security, enhancing data flow for scientific instruments, and providing end-to-end user support. This is an onsite role in Stevenage 5 days a week with the occasional travel to other local sites.

In this role you will

  • Maintain and support a global computer infrastructure of over 5,000 PCs.

  • Deploy and integrate new hardware within the network, ensuring security and compliance.

  • Collaborate with various business units to troubleshoot and resolve equipment-related issues.

  • Configure and manage data flows for specialized scientific instruments to support research activities.

  • Implement and maintain data backup solutions for both GxP and non-GxP laboratory environments.

Qualifications & Skills:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting complex technical issues related to device connectivity, network configurations, and laboratory-specific software.

  • Significant experience in hardware and software troubleshooting as part of End-user Computing or Desktop Support.

  • Comprehensive understanding of network architectures, including VLANs, IP configurations (Static/Dynamic), Subnetting, Basic firewall management.

  • Proficient in troubleshooting different network layers according to the OSI model.

  • Familiarity with computer security practices and systems validation.

  • Proficiency in Active Directory, managing user access and system configurations.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, for data analysis and report generation.

  • Experience with multiple operating systems, including Microsoft, iOS, and Linux.

  • Experience in managing large data sets to ensure compliance and support complex analyses.

  • Ability to document and formalize processes as a Technical Author.

  • Interest in and knowledge of emerging AI technologies, with a keenness to integrate AI solutions into operational practices.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Experience with validated systems (GxP) preferred.

  • Experienced in Agile methodologies, emphasizing iterative development and collaboration.

  • Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems, supporting incident and request management workflows.

  • Experience leading teams and projects is highly desirable.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members and other departments.

  • Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.

  • Demonstrated initiative, detail orientation, and a capacity to learn new technologies quickly.
