Job summary

SILA Linguists is seeking freelance Kurdish Badini interpreters and translators for asylum, legal, healthcare and community assignments in the UK. Work can be done by telephone, video or in person, with the option for both remote and on-site engagements.

Applicants should be native or near-native in Badini and English, hold relevant qualifications (DPSI/DPI or translation degree) and may benefit from membership with CIOL, ITI or NRPSI. DBS may be required for certain assignments.

Qualifications

• Native or near-native fluency in Badini and English.
• Qualifications such as the DPSI, DPI or a translation degree, or equivalent professional experience; CIOL, ITI or NRPSI membership is welcome.

Responsibilities

• Interpret in Badini for clients from Duhok and nearby areas, flagting if a client prefers Sorani or another Kurdish variety.
• Translate Badini statements and Kurdish documents written in Arabic script.
• Maintain accuracy, impartiality and confidentiality on every assignment.
• Prepare for bookings by reviewing briefs and researching terminology.
• Take on-site assignments at hospitals, courts, offices and other venues, and remote sessions by video or telephone.
• Take on transcription and translation of Kurdish Badini recordings for legal, research and media clients.
