Job summary

Wave Photonics in Cambridge, UK is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to build a cloud-backed HPC platform that supports heavy design and simulation workloads. You will manage Kubernetes across on-prem and cloud, ensure security end-to-end, and enable self-service for the team.

The role covers observability, data storage for large datasets, and robust automation. You will work with Terraform and cloud providers, own the compute platform, and maintain reliability while balancing needs of research

Qualifications

• Experience running Kubernetes in production, ideally including bare metal.
• Cloud-native mindset: think in Kubernetes and treat on-prem as part of the cluster.
• Some Linux sysadmin experience to manage bare metal boxes.
• Comfortable with compute-heavy, batch workloads.
• Experience with Terraform (Infrastructure as Code).
• Willingness to take ownership and make pragmatic calls.
• Ability to architect robust, reliable systems and care about user experience.

Responsibilities

• Observability: monitoring and alerting to pre-empt issues.
• Data infrastructure: reliable storage for large datasets with trusted backups.
