I had the pleasure of meeting Carmen, (14), and her family during an online visit. She is so engaging and what a smile! Carmen is very much at the heart of this incredibly warm, upbeat family. Carmen has a little sister and brother whom she loves very much. Her little sister has a strong bond with Carmen and has the knack of getting her big sister to do her therapies on the occasions she is just not in the mood! Carmen is very vocal; during my visit, she relayed to her mum the things she loves to do on a weekend. Dad had just finished painting her nails, all the colours of the rainbow. Carmen absolutely loves her phone, texting her BFF and the close team of therapists she has, going to Starbucks, shopping, and finding new and exciting activities to join. Carmen has Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, she can stand and be transferred with support, ( personal care involved ) and is a wheelchair user. She has medication for Epilepsy. She wears hearing aids but can find it a little tricky to distinguish between some words.

Overview of role:
By the time you arrive, Carmen is up and raring to go. Every day is different so together you will plan the day ahead. Creative input on sourcing new and interesting places to visit or clubs to join is very much welcomed. Lunch can be at home or out and about. Carmen can feed herself with gentle encouragement. There are lots of opportunities to enable Carmen to progress in her self-help skills and independence.

Who this job would suit:
When Carmen first meets new people she can be a little shy but as her relationship grows with you, her personality really begins to shine. She can be very head strong so you must show consistency in your approach from the beginning, be creative in your negotiating skills! This is a busy, fun household; Carmen needs her *female Buddy to have tons of energy, a great sense of humour, and really understand her as a teenage girl, and everything that goes with that.

The family has a fantastic team of Therapists so bespoke training will be provided by them and ongoing supervision from their Case Manager. The star is Carmen of course so what a wonderful opportunity this will be, for the right *female buddy.
