Job description

Social network you want to login/join with:

client/child:

I had the pleasure of meeting Carmen, (14), and her family during an online visit. She is so engaging and has a wonderful smile! Carmen is very much at the heart of this warm, upbeat family. She has a little sister and brother whom she loves dearly. Her little sister has a strong bond with Carmen and often encourages her to do her therapies when she's not in the mood. Carmen is very vocal; during my visit, she shared with her mum the activities she loves to do on weekends. Her dad recently painted her nails in rainbow colors. Carmen loves her phone, texting her BFF and her team of therapists, going to Starbucks, shopping, and exploring new activities. She has Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, can stand and be transferred with support (involving personal care), and uses a wheelchair. She takes medication for Epilepsy and wears hearing aids, which can sometimes make understanding words tricky.

Overview of role:

When you arrive, Carmen will be ready to engage. Each day is different, so you'll plan the day ahead together. Your creative input in finding new places or clubs to visit is encouraged. Lunch can be at home or out. Carmen can feed herself with gentle encouragement. There are many opportunities to help Carmen develop her self-help skills and independence.

Who this job would suit:

Initially, Carmen may be shy around new people, but as she gets to know you, her personality will shine. She can be quite headstrong, so consistency and creative negotiation skills are essential. This busy, fun household needs a female Buddy with lots of energy, a great sense of humor, and an understanding of teenage girl dynamics.

What’s great about this job:

The family has a fantastic team of Therapists who will provide bespoke training and ongoing supervision through their Case Manager. Working with Carmen is a wonderful opportunity for the right female Buddy.
