Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Support Officer (KS4) to cover a 12-week sickness absence at a prominent secondary school in Romford, East London. The role centres on supporting student welfare, behaviour, attendance and engagement, delivering targeted interventions and working closely with pastoral leaders.

You will liaise with parents, carers and external agencies as appropriate, helping pupils develop resilience and reach positive outcomes by the end of their secondary

Qualifications

• Experience in pastoral, behaviour, mentoring, youth work, or student support roles.
• Experience working with secondary-aged pupils, particularly KS4.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Confidence conducting 1:1 meetings with students and parents.
• Ability to stay calm and professional when managing challenging behaviour.
• Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.
• Genuine passion for supporting young people and improving outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Support pastoral leaders with student welfare, behaviour, attendance, and engagement strategies.
• Conduct effective 1:1 mentoring and intervention sessions with students.
• Build positive relationships with students, parents, carers, and staff.
• Attend and support parent meetings, review appointments, and reintegration meetings.
• Monitor student progress, attendance, punctuality, and behaviour using school systems.
• Deliver targeted interventions aimed at improving attitudes to learning and engagement.
• Maintain accurate records of meetings, interventions and outcomes.
• Support the wider Behaviour and Inclusion Team during incidents and pastoral interventions.
• Promote high expectations, positive conduct, and a culture of aspiration across the school.
