Job description

About The Role

Be part of a truly ‘Good’ school now striving to be ‘Outstanding’ with a dedicated staff team.

You will be instrumental in our vision “At Ark Kings Academy, every individual will develop the character to thrive in life, education and employment.”

You will be a passionate practitioner, delivering high-quality, rigorous lessons that drive achievement and inspire a love of learning beyond the classroom.

You will lead the development and delivery of an engaging and high-quality Key Stage 4 English curriculum, ensuring all pupils are challenged and supported to reach their full potential. As a middle leader, you will shape teaching strategies, monitor student progress, and promote excellence in English. You will also support colleagues, contribute to whole-school initiatives, and collaborate with senior leaders to improve student outcomes.

Our school is committed to exceptional professional development, offering tailored leadership training, coaching, and mentoring from experienced senior leaders. Opportunities include taking on whole-school responsibilities, engaging in curriculum innovation, and cross-departmental projects to enhance your leadership skills. We actively support career progression towards becoming Head of Department in English, through bespoke CPD, external qualifications, and leadership development programs.

We are dedicated to safeguarding and child protection, fostering a workplace culture centered on these principles.

We warmly invite prospective candidates to visit our school to experience our vibrant learning community firsthand. This visit offers a tour of our facilities, meetings with staff, and discussions on how we can support your professional growth. To arrange a visit, contact Thom O’Brien, Secondary Head of School at t.obrien@arkkingsacademy.org.

Benefits

  • Salaries are 2.5% above the main pay scale.
  • Twice as many training days as standard.
  • Generous pension scheme with a defined benefit plan, providing a guaranteed retirement income.
  • Access to Ark Rewards discounts at over 3,000 retailers.
  • Interest-free loans up to £5,000 for season tickets or bicycles.
  • Gym discounts of up to 40%.
  • Access to Employee Assistance Programme for confidential support services.
  • Free fruit in Spring/Summer terms and free soup in Autumn/Winter terms.

Ark Kings values staff wellbeing and work-life balance, offering an additional leave day, a two-week October half-term, and other initiatives to support staff health and satisfaction, as reflected in our latest staff survey.
