Job description

We are seeking a dedicated, inspiring and skilled KS3 Nurture Teacher to join our team at Baston House School in Bromley, Kent on a fixed-term basis to cover a period of paternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified teacher who is passionate about inclusive education, holistic child development, and individualised learning pathways.

About the role: You will lead a small Key Stage 3 nurture class, supporting pupils with autism and additional needs. You will deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that meets their academic targets while also promoting communication skills, emotional regulation, independence, and life skills.

This is not a traditional mainstream teaching role. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team that includes speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, behaviour analysts, and pastoral staff. Together, you will work to remove barriers to learning and help every young person feel valued, understood, and successful.

Responsibilities:

• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons in line with individual EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans)
• Create a safe, positive, and structured learning environment
• Promote pupil wellbeing, confidence, and emotional development alongside academic progress
• Use a variety of teaching strategies and assistive technologies to meet individual needs
• Monitor, assess and report on pupil progress using school systems and frameworks
• Work closely with parents/carers and external professionals to provide a holistic support system
• Participate in the wider life of the school including staff meetings, CPD, and school events
• Maintain accurate records of behaviour, incidents, and progress using the school's systems
• Contribute to the review and updating of curriculum planning and school policies as required

Who we are looking for:

We're looking for a caring, flexible, and resilient teacher with a strong understanding of SEN and a creative approach to learning. You must be confident working with children and young people who may present with challenging behaviour, communication difficulties, and complex emotional needs.

Requirements:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (UK-recognised teaching qualification)
• Experience teaching pupils with autism, learning difficulties
• Strong classroom management and behaviour regulation strategies
• Ability to plan and adapt lessons to meet a range of learning styles and abilities
• Excellent communication, teamwork and organisational skills
• A reflective, proactive, and solution-focused approach to teaching and learning

Desirable:

• Knowledge of TEACCH, PECS, SCERTS, or similar frameworks
• Experience working within a specialist setting or alternative provision
• An understanding of trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support
• Ability to deliver a nurture-based curriculum and contribute to social/emotional learning
• Familiarity with EHCP processes and statutory reporting requirements
