Job description

A friendly and welcoming primary school in Maldon is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Teaching Assistant to join their team as soon as possible. This is a long-term, full-time role with the opportunity of a permanent contract. Supporting a child in Key Stage 1 with additional learning needs.

The Role

As a KS1 Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with the class teacher and SENCo to support a pupil with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in their day-to-day learning. You’ll help the child access lessons, develop key skills, and build confidence in the classroom.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 support to a child with SEN, adapting activities to suit their individual needs
  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Encouraging the child’s academic, social, and emotional development through patience, encouragement, and praise
  • Supporting with classroom organisation, behaviour management, and small group work where needed
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure consistent support
About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in working with children, ideally within a primary or SEN setting
  • Calm, patient, and understanding, with a caring and proactive attitude
  • Able to build positive relationships and communicate effectively with children and adults alike
  • Flexible, reliable, and committed to supporting children’s progress and wellbeing
  • Ideally qualified to Level 2 or Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or with equivalent experience)
  • This role would suit someone who loves working with children, thrives in a hands-on classroom environment, and is looking for a meaningful long-term position.
