Key Responsibilities of a Key Stage 1 Teacher
  1. Teaching and Learning:
  • Plan and deliver engaging, creative, and differentiated lessons for students in Key Stage 1, ensuring all lessons meet the needs of every child.
  • Teach the full primary curriculum, including core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and Foundation subjects, in an interactive and challenging manner.
  • Create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment where all children feel valued and supported.
  • Use a range of teaching strategies, including practical activities and technology, to promote active learning and high student engagement.
  • Assessment and Progress:
    • Regularly assess and track students' progress using various methods to inform your teaching practice.
    • Provide constructive, formative feedback and adapt lesson plans based on individual student needs.
    • Set clear targets and support students in achieving their personal and academic goals.
  • Classroom Management:
    • Establish clear rules and promote a positive classroom environment.
    • Implement effective behaviour management strategies.
    • Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging social and emotional development.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork:
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues to plan cross-curricular activities and share strategies.
    • Participate in school meetings, training, and planning sessions.
    • Maintain communication with parents and carers about student progress and school events.
  • Personal Development:
    • Attend training sessions and workshops for professional growth.
    • Stay updated with educational trends and practices to keep teaching methods innovative and effective.
    Personal Specification
    • Qualifications: A recognised teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent) is essential.
    • Experience: Experience teaching in Key Stage 1, preferably in a primary school setting. Knowledge of phonics, early literacy, and numeracy. Experience working with children with SEND.
    • Skills and Attributes: Strong classroom management, excellent communication, creativity, organisation, and adaptability. Ability to assess and differentiate teaching.
