Job Summary

As a UK regulator, HSE collects, processes, and produces a huge amount of information relating to our regulatory activities and we have legal obligations as a government department to ensure that we are managing this information in accordance with our statutory obligations and can be both accountable and transparent in our decision making.

An exciting opportunity is available for a Band 4 (HEO) Knowledge and Information Management Manager to join our Information Management Team (IMT). The post holder will provide day-to-day management support to HSE on all aspects of information management, promoting best practice, designing and delivering training programs to enhance staff understanding and skills in managing information effectively, making the best use of new technologies and responding to the changing needs of the organisation.

The post holder will have the opportunity to engage with a wide range of colleagues within HSE and requires a high standard of communication, problem solving, technical knowledge and skills, as well as being flexible & pragmatic.

Part time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice to colleagues at all levels on information management (IM) best practice working closely with Information Governance and HSE Security teams.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on various topics, including information governance, information security, data privacy, and the use of information systems. Monitoring completion and the effectiveness of training programs, making adjustments as needed.
  • Create and implement awareness campaigns to promote IM best practices and encourage staff to adopt responsible information handling practices. Support the modernisation and delivery of an information management service including building capability and developing knowledge and skills in the evolving world of knowledge and information management including Microsoft O365 products and information and record management tools
  • Actively engage with KIM professionals across government and other stakeholders to develop own knowledge and advise and support HSE on emerging issues and trends
  • Support HSE’s Information Asset Owners and HSE’s Data Protection Officer to manage risks, providing performance and compliance data, undertaking information audits where required using available tools and technologies to help manage data governance.
  • Support HSE’s Departmental Records Officer (DRO) to fulfil HSE’s legal obligations under the Public Records Act including the management and assurance of the HSE’s Information Lifecycle, from creation to disposal
  • Lead a team of KIM specialists including direct line management responsibility for approx. 3 B5/EOs undertaking 1-2-1s at least every 8-weeks, setting team and individual’s performance objectives, ensuring training and development plans are in place, as well as managing attendance, leave and sickness etc.
  • Assist in the development, review and maintenance of HSE’s Information Management Strategy, Information Governance, Policies, Procedures and Guidance. Engaging and supporting the HSE’s directorates and divisions in the definition of their Information Management requirements, looking for practical and innovative information management solutions.
