Job summary

Holroyd Howe is recruiting a Kitchen Porter/Assistant to join the kitchen team at West Buckland School. You will help maintain a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen in an education setting, supporting chefs and daily service.

The role emphasizes allergy controls, hygiene, and teamwork. Previous kitchen experience is beneficial but not essential; a positive, flexible attitude and eagerness to learn are valued. Free meals while at work are provided.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas.
• Assist chefs with basic food prep and stock deliveries.
• Operate dishwashers and ensure proper sanitation practices.
• Follow health, safety, and hygiene regulations at all times.
• Support the team in daily kitchen operations and setup for service.
• Champion allergen controls and ensure safe mealtimes for pupils.

• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas
• Assist chefs with basic food prep and stock deliveries
• Operate dishwashers and ensure proper sanitation practices
• Follow health, safety, and hygiene regulations at all times
• Support the team in daily kitchen operations and setup for service
• Accountability for following and championing allergen controls, Our respectful codes of conduct inform how we behave towards our clients and customers, suppliers and business partners, and each other.
• A keen interest in food and cooking, eager to learn and develop skills
• Good attention to detail and understanding of hygiene practices
• Team player with a positive and flexible attitude
• Previous kitchen experience or relevant training is beneficial but not essential
• Willingness to work in an education or high-profile catering environment is desirable
