Job summary

The Genuine Dining Company in Reading is seeking a Kitchen Porter to support the kitchen team by maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation throughout the kitchen and back-of-house areas. You will assist with basic food preparation and ensure the kitchen operates smoothly during busy service.

This hands-on role requires reliability, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic. You will work 5 days across 7, with an hourly rate of £14.85.

Responsibilities

• Clean designated areas as outlined by Head Chef and the department's cleaning schedule.
• Ensure all kitchen surfaces, floors, and equipment are kept clean, sanitised, and clutter-free throughout the shift.
• Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchenware manually and using the dishwasher.
• Handle all crockery, cutlery, and glassware with care and store them neatly and safely.
• Ensure bins are emptied regularly and waste is disposed of correctly.
• Assist with basic food preparation as directed by the kitchen team.
• Support the kitchen team during busy periods to ensure smooth service.
• Ensure the kitchen is clean, tidy, and ready for the next shift at the end of each day.

Main Responsibilities:

Cleaning & Hygiene:

Equipment & Maintenance:

• Maintain proper use and cleaning of all kitchen equipment.
• Report any maintenance or equipment issues immediately to the Head Chef or Duty Manager.
• Follow all health and safety procedures, including COSHH and food safety regulations.

Deliveries & Stock

• Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries, ensuring items are stored correctly and safely.
• Enter data accurately and promptly into theRiskproof(due diligence) system.

Additional Duties:

• Occasionally assist the front-of-house team with meeting room setups, deliveries, clear-downs, and maintaining service equipment.
• Adhere to all site-specific health and safety systems, including loading bay procedures.
