Job summary

Hawkwell House, part of the Accor network, is seeking a Kitchen Porter to maintain clean kitchens and support chefs in a fast-paced environment in Oxford. You will handle equipment, ensure hygienic storage, and assist with deliveries while following health and safety regulations.

The role emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and the ability to work in a warm, guest-focused hotel setting with opportunities for training and growth within the Accor group.

Qualifications

• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment and industrial dishwashers.
• Basic food hygiene awareness and safe handling of ingredients.
• Physical stamina for standing long periods and lifting heavy items.
• Effective communication and teamwork to support chefs and kitchen staff.
• Experience in a kitchen environment, even at entry level, can be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Ensure kitchens are cleaned according to Health & Hygiene regs.
• Count, sort and prepare operating equipment.
• Handle chemicals and equipment per manufacturer’s instructions.
• Clean and store equipment, crockery, cutlery & glassware.
• Follow cleaning rosters and deep-clean schedules.
• Contribute to cost control via energy and water conservation.
• Dispose of garbage correctly from kitchen areas.
• Remove dry and wet waste hygienically.
• Assist supervisors and hotel management with requests.
• Receive deliveries and store food items per guidelines.
• Tidy workplace and staff dining room per supervisor’s instructions.
• Handle loading bay duties: tidying, cleaning, receiving deliveries.
• Follow departmental procedures and Accor Employee Handbook.

Job Description

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure all kitchens are kept clean and tidy according to current Health & Hygiene regulations.
• To count, sort and prepare operating equipment as required.
• Ensure correct handling of chemicals and equipment as per manufacturer’s instructions.
• Ensure all operating equipment, crockery, cutlery & glassware is hygienically cleaned and safely stored.
• Follow the regular cleaning rosters and standard methods for deep cleaning of floors, walls, coolers, oven & operating equipment.
• To contribute to cost control through energy conservation and the careful use of water, cleaning materials, and other appliances
• Ensure garbage is collected and disposed of correctly from all kitchen areas each shift.
• Utilise safe and hygienic methods for the removal of dry and wet waste.
• Any other reasonable request as required by your Supervisor or Hotel Management.
• Helps receive deliveries and tidies food items according to storage guidelines.
• Cleans and tidies the workplace and employee’s dining room following the supervisor's instructions.
• Loading bay duties – tidying, cleaning, and receiving deliveries.

General Duties

• Follow the standards and performance outlined during training and in the departmental service procedures manual. Complete all tasks within the shift to these standards.
• Follow the expectations and guidelines in the Accor Employee Handbook.
