Job description

• Dual role
• Garden Suburb location
• Permanent part-time work - weekdays & weekends

We are seeking to find an experienced aged care kitchen assistant and cook for this unique dual role working at our beautiful Garden Suburb facility for up to 60 hours per fortnight. Applicants must be able to also work weekends.

About our facility

Uniting Garden Suburb has 3 separate households, each with between 25–30 residents. This includes a secure household for people living with dementia or mental health illness. Your Uniting Homemaker ensures that the community is thriving and doing things that are meaningful and enjoyable.

Kitchen Hand duties

• Provide quality, timely and effective hotel service such as catering.
• Complete documentation in the Food Safety Program and the information management system and coach Food Services Team to undertake the same.
• Work for the continuous improvement of our service to ensure it’s the best it can be, in line with Aged Care Accreditation Standards.
• Handle queries and complaints from our clients and their families, as well as your co-workers and other service providers, with a confidential and timely approach, in collaboration with your supervisor.
• While providing effective and timely hotel services, treat our clients with respect and recognize their abilities, preferences, and decision-making capacity.

Cook Duties

• Facilitate and oversee the quality, timely and effective preparation of food in line with the unique needs of clients in an environment where dietary requirements can change rapidly.
• Prepare and cook all daily meals and maintain the storage and protection of food and catering supplies for optimum use.
• Ensure all food preparation and catering practices adhere to hygiene and safety principles and are free of any hazards.

What We’re Looking For

• Ideally, you have a Certificate II in Hospitality or an equivalent qualification and/or a Cert III in Hospitality – Commercial Cookery or similar or demonstrated competence in the provision of catering services.
• Previous experience in similar roles (catering, kitchenhand) within aged care.
• You’re empathetic, adaptable, resourceful, and align with Uniting’s core values of compassion, respect, boldness, and creativity.
