Job description

About The Role

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Kitchen Assistant to join our catering team at Baldock Manor Hospital. In this role, you’ll be providing an excellent dining experience to patients, guests and visitors while maintaining a hygienic and safe environment in the kitchen.

Your Responsibilities

We at Nouvita know that nothing gets done on an empty stomach, that’s why we view our catering team as a key part of the hospital. In this role, you’ll not only be providing meals to our residents, you’ll be providing a sense of community at every mealtime. Residents often use this time to socialise, relax and reflect; coupled with your fantastic food, this becomes a crucial part of the day.

As an assistant, you won’t be expected to create meals from scratch, but you will often:

  • Prepare simple meals such as salads under the direction of the chef.
  • Prepare beverage trolleys.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen & dining area.
  • Prepare dining areas for all meals (laying tables).
  • Heat ancillary items or pre-prepared meals.
  • Interact with residents during service.

Weekend availability is required as the role includes working a Saturday.

It’s important to note that you will be coached by your colleagues regarding anything you’re not yet confident with. Nouvita’s ethos aims to promote a constant learning environment in order for you to experience personal development and expand upon your skillset.

Desired traits/Certificates

Though we do not require you to have a long history of catering experience, the ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of food hygiene, an awareness of modified diets and have the capability to multitask.

Being diligent within the kitchen will naturally ensure safety/hygiene standards while being flexible with residents will ensure a positive experience. Having a Level 2 Food Hygiene/Health and Safety certificate is highly desirable.

Benefits

Once part of the team, you will have access to a litany of benefits as shown here:

  • Annual Leave: 28 days including bank holidays (Pro Rata).
  • Blue Light Card (High Street discounts for many large brands).
  • Access to our ‘Refer a Friend’ scheme to earn up to £500.
  • In-house training and development.
  • Access to career progression throughout the group.
  • Employer pension contribution.
  • Fully funded DBS.
