Job summary

Hatzfeld Care Ltd is seeking a part-time Kitchen Assistant to prepare meals for residents under the guidance of the Head Chef in our care home in Kirkby in Ashfield, England.

You will support stock control, assist with ordering, ensure safe use of equipment, and maintain hygiene and dietary compliance for residents with specialist dementia and mental health care needs.

Qualifications

• Attend statutory training and any other training as directed by management.
• Take responsibility for your own professional development through performance and development reviews and undertake any relevant training.
• Be responsible for understanding the health and safety requirements of the role.
• Understand and follow any relevant risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Assist Head Chef in identifying items to order to ensure sufficient supplies for catering operation.
• Operate an efficient stock control system to manage inventory.
• Ensure equipment is used properly and report faults immediately.
• Prepare food items under guidance of Head Chef.
• Support delivery and serving of food when required.
• Understand residents' dietary needs and communicate concerns to Head Chef.
• Comply with health and safety, infection control and allergen policies.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation.
• Record and report any incidents or accidents to the cook.
• Promote and protect welfare of residents under the service.

Job description

Hatzfeld Care Ltd provides high quality residential and day care through our specialised mental health, Dementia care and residential care services. Each of our homes offers a unique environment providing high quality, consistent, responsive care in a homely, supportive setting.

As a Kitchen Assistant, you will help prepare meals for all Residents within the care home, under the guidance of the Head Chef.

The Kitchen Assistant’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Under the supervision of the Head Chef, assist in identifying items to be ordered from specified suppliers to ensure enough levels of supplies for catering operation, using the service’s procedures
• Operate an efficient stock control system
• Ensure equipment supplied is used with care, in accordance with suppliers’ instructions and training
• Ensure all equipment is in good working order and report any faults immediately. If any machine is felt to be dangerous/faulty, withdraw it from service immediately
• Prepare food items under the guidance of the Head Chef
• Support the delivery and serving of food, if required
• Understand the specific diets identified as required by service users, and share any dietary concerns with the Head Chef
• Be responsible for understanding health and safety requirements, infection control and allergens
• Be clean, hygienic and well presented at all times
• Any incidents or accidents to be reported to the cook, and appropriately recorded and actioned
• Be responsible for promoting and protecting the welfare of those individuals supported by the service
