Job title: General Kitchen Assistant

Location: Pulborough

Starting: ASAP

Rate of pay: £12.21 per hour, annual equivalent £20,024.40

Working hours: No evenings, 8-hour shifts (7:00-15:00 and 11:30-19:30), Term Time 39 weeks + 28 days holiday

I am looking for a Kitchen Porter/Kitchen Assistant to join a friendly team in the school kitchen.

General skills

• Good working knowledge of kitchen practices
• Experience of washing dishes and cleaning in a commercial kitchen
• Ability to work well with your hands and physical skills like movement, coordination, and dexterity
• Physically fit enough to work on your feet for most of the shift
• Organisational skills and the ability to work methodically, and prioritise items needed in the kitchen for service
• Understanding of basic food hygiene practices
• Understanding of the importance of stock rotation when storing deliveries, especially perishable items

Main Duties/Responsibilities

• Wash dishes, clean kitchen appliances, work surfaces, and walls
• Prepare work surfaces to ensure hygiene standards are maintained
• Ensure pots, pans, plates, and cutlery are ready for use during service
• Receive and unload deliveries, organize items in the kitchen and storeroom
• Remove waste and recycling throughout the day and at the end of a shift
• Sweep and mop the floor
• Keep track of chemicals and cleaning supplies, notify the Head Chef when stock is low
• Assist with basic food preparation, such as washing and peeling vegetables, moving deliveries, cleaning kitchen equipment
