Salary and Hours
  • £12.43 per hour
  • Increased pay on weekends

Role Overview

The Kitchen Assistant supports the Assistant Cook in preparing nutritious meals, ensuring hygiene and safety standards are met, and providing a welcoming environment for clients, staff, and visitors. All staff contribute to safeguarding and supporting the welfare of those we serve.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare basic foods like vegetables and salads
  • Follow dietary requirements (allergies, textures, cultural diets)
  • Maintain food hygiene and infection control standards
  • Follow health and safety practices, wear protective clothing
  • Ensure cleanliness of food prep areas
  • Serve meals and assist with meal service
  • Wash up and clear away after meals
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment use and safety regulations
  • Ensure equipment is in good working order and report faults
  • Assist with deliveries and general kitchen duties
  • Maintain personal hygiene and presentation standards
  • Work as part of a team, provide cover when needed
  • Keep records for audits and inspections
  • Attend staff meetings as required
Person Specification - Must Haves
  • Ability to operate food prep and cleaning equipment, follow instructions
  • Basic English skills for record keeping
  • Reasonable physical fitness
  • Good communication skills
  • Teamwork and commitment to quality service
  • Willingness to work towards Food Safety Level 2 and Infection Control certificates
  • Understanding of food hygiene and safety standards
  • Basic catering equipment knowledge
