Job summary

Bupa is seeking a Kitchen Assistant for Norewood Lodge Care Home in Portishead. This bank, zero hours role supports the kitchen team to prepare meals and ensure residents enjoy a high-quality dining experience.

You will assist with food prep, plating, and service while maintaining hygiene standards and contributing to event catering. Previous kitchen work and a Basic Food Hygiene certificate are valued.

Qualifications

• Basic Food Hygiene certificate required or in progress.
• Experience working in a kitchen and delivering good service.
• Ability to maintain high standards in a care home dining environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist chefs to plate meals and prepare food trolleys.
• Keep preparation and serving areas clean and tidy.
• Monitor stock rotation and follow COSHH/HACPP guidelines.
• Help cater for special events and resident activities.

About Norewood Lodge Care Home

At Norewood Lodge, a caring team of professionals ensure exceptional care and support is provided to residents on an individual basis for short or long term needs. The home provides a range of care plans to anyone over 50 including residential, nursing, palliative and convalescence care. Situated close to the coast not far from the seaside town of Clevedon, the home boasts wonderful views of the Bristol Channel and the hills of Wales. The property has large gardens for residents to enjoy, while a modern interior offers residents comfortable accommodation. All bedrooms are en suite and some have views of the pretty gardens. The chef works hard to ensure that the tastes and dietary requirements of each resident are met and that meal times are a tasty and enjoyable occasion. Residents can continue their passions and hobbies within the home setting, or even take part in new groups for reading, gardening, painting or cookery that take place throughout the year at the home. Residents can also benefit from an onsite salon and visiting mobile library.

We are looking for an equally passionate Kitchen Assistant to join the team and help deliver an excellent dining experience for our residents.

You’ll help us make health happen by:

• Acting as the link between the main kitchen and our residents
• Assisting the chefs to plate meals, prepare food trolleys and ensure all preparation areas are kept clean and tidy
• Monitoring stock rotation, complying to company policies and procedures following all mandatory COSHH and HACPP guidelines
• Assisting with catering for special events such as summer BBQs and Christmas parties

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role

• A passion for food with previous experience working in a kitchen and a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
• You want to deliver an excellent service at each meal and make our residents feel at home.
• You’ll understand the importance of maintaining high standards in and around the home, ensuring our residents enjoy a pleasant dining experience.
• Working with the wider kitchen and care home teams - you’re comfortable communicating with others, cherishing the little moments with our residents.
