Job description

In your role as a Kitchen Assistant at HC-One, you'll value one thing above all: kindness. It carries across every aspect of our Dementia, Nursing, Residential, and Specialist care homes. Every person who works here understands that our Residents are people just like them, with their own stories to tell. Joining HC-One offers a wonderful opportunity to give back to these individuals.

As a Kitchen Assistant, your responsibilities will include preparing and serving nutritious, healthy meals that residents will love. You'll maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety, and hygiene. Whether you're managing food supplies, ensuring fridge/freezer temperatures are correct, training new staff on equipment, or cleaning up spills, you'll always prioritize Resident wellbeing.

We are looking for a Kitchen Assistant with some kitchen experience. Ideally, you'll have an NVQ2 in Catering or Food Preparation, or be willing to study for one. Strong record-keeping and organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to follow recipes. When communicating with Residents or colleagues, kindness and consideration are a must.

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. You should be able to recognize signs of abuse, harm, or neglect and know how to respond. All staff are required to attend safeguarding training relevant to their role and to undertake additional training as needed. You should also be able to seek advice and report concerns appropriately, escalating issues if necessary.

We provide full training, offering a great opportunity to learn new skills. In return, you'll enjoy a wide range of benefits and support for your physical and mental wellbeing. Throughout your career as a Kitchen Assistant, we will invest in you and provide additional support, including:

  • 3 on 3 off shifts, 9 am to 3 pm
  • Hourly rate subject to experience and qualifications
  • Paid Enhanced DBS/PVG
  • Free uniform
  • A nutritious meal during shifts of eight hours or more
  • Company pension scheme
  • 28 days annual leave, inclusive of bank holidays
  • Group life assurance
  • Wagestream - flexible access to earned wages
  • Learning and development opportunities, including qualifications
  • GP online service for 24/7 consultations, available to you and your children under 16
  • Support from experienced colleagues in a dedicated team
  • Colleague discounts at over 1600 high street stores
  • Free Employee Assistance Programme offering 24/7 support for physical, mental, and financial issues
  • Recognition schemes such as 'Kindness in Care' and Long Service Awards
  • Refer-a-Friend scheme offering up to £1000 per successful referral
We are committed to creating an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and aim for a quick onboarding process from offer to start date.
