Job summary

Sodexo is hiring a Kitchen Assistant at Nuffield Health Tunbridge Wells Hospital in Tunbridge Wells. You will help prepare and serve nutritious meals, maintain cleanliness, and support patient wellbeing in a busy hospital kitchen.

The role is part-time, 30 hours per week, on-site with a shift pattern of 5 days out of 7 (Mon-Fri). The position offers an hourly rate of £12.81 plus Sodexo benefits and opportunities for training and development.

Qualifications

• Friendly, caring and professional approach to patient care.
• Experience or interest in food preparation and service, ideally healthcare or catering.
• Good understanding of food safety and HACCP principles.
• Awareness of food allergies and cross-contamination.
• Knowledge of COSHH and safe cleaning practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist with food preparation, portioning and presentation to deliver high-quality meals on time.
• Follow food safety, HACCP and infection control procedures at all times.
• Respond to dietary requirements and allergies to keep patients safe.
• Maintain cleanliness across kitchen, dining and service areas.
• Record temperatures, cleaning schedules and food safety documentation.
• Support stock control, rotation and deliveries, reporting issues to the Catering Manager.
• Provide friendly, respectful service to patients, visitors and colleagues.

As a Kitchen Assistant at Sodexo in Nuffield Health Tunbridge Wells Hospital, you’ll play an important part in preparing and serving nutritious, comforting meals that support patient recovery and wellbeing. You’ll also help maintain a clean, safe environment in the kitchen and dining areas. With a cheerful attitude and great customer service, your presence can make a real difference in someone’s day. What you’ll do:

• Support the kitchen team with food preparation, portioning and presentation, helping to deliver high-quality meals on time.
• Follow food safety, HACCP, infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
• Handle and respond appropriately to food allergies and special dietary requirements, helping to keep patients safe.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness across the kitchen, dining and food service areas, including washing crockery, cutlery, trays and equipment.
• Follow COSHH procedures and use cleaning products and protective equipment safely and correctly.
• Check and record food temperatures, cleaning schedules and other required food safety documentation.
• Support stock control, stock rotation and deliveries, reporting any issues or equipment faults to the Catering Manager.
• Provide friendly, respectful and professional service to patients, visitors and colleagues, raising any concerns promptly.

What you bring:

• A friendly, caring and professional approach, with a genuine desire to make a difference to patients and their experience.
• Experience or an interest in food preparation and food service, ideally within a healthcare, hospitality or catering environment.
• Good understanding of food safety, hygiene and HACCP principles, with the ability to follow procedures consistently.
• Awareness of food allergies, special diets and the importance of preventing cross-contamination.
• Knowledge of COSHH and safe use of cleaning products and equipment.
• Ability to work efficiently as part of a team in a busy kitchen while maintaining high standards.
• Good communication skills and a calm, respectful approach when working with patients, visitors and colleagues.
• Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate (or willingness to obtain one, if appropriate).
