Job summary

Ann’s Care Homes is seeking a dedicated catering assistant to help prepare nutritious meals for service users. You will handle food safely, serve meals, and maintain a clean, well-organised kitchen environment.

Ideal candidates have basic numeracy and literacy, and may be working towards an NVQ2 in catering. Immediate interviews offered; equal opportunities employer with paid training and uniform provided.

Qualifications

• Basic numeracy & Literacy.
• Willingness to work towards an NVQ2 in Catering.
• Basic knowledge of Catering & Food Hygiene Regulations.
• Basic knowledge on Operation of kitchen equipment.
• COSHH / Health and Safety knowledge.
• Previous experience in Catering (desirable)

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation of nutritious, well balanced meals.
• Handle and store food per Food Hygiene regs.
• Serve meals and drinks to service users.
• Talk with service users to ensure meals are liked.
• Blend food as required and use cleaning materials per COSHH regs.
• Prepare meal trays, lay tables, and transport to dining areas.
• Clean all work surfaces, equipment, fridges, ovens and floors.
• Ensure store rooms are well organised and clean.
• Check fridge/freezer temperatures daily.
• Order food and kitchen equipment; take deliveries.
• Ensure food is used before expiry date; refill containers.
• Maintain cleaning rotas.
• Assist people to dining rooms and Hoover as needed.
• Any other duty to ensure kitchen runs smoothly.

Job description

The Successful Candidate will:

• Assist in the preparation of nutritious, well balanced, attractive meals in accordance with the needs of the people who use the service
• Handle and store food in accordance with Food Hygiene regulations.
• Serve meals and drinks to the people that use the service (dependent upon service)
• Talk to the people who use our service to ensure that the food has been prepared well and they like it
• Use cleaning materials in accordance with COSHH regulations Blend food as required
• Prepare meal trays, lay tables, collect trays and clear tables after meal times Load up trolleys for meal times and transport to and from the dining room(s)
• Clean all work surfaces, equipment, fridges, ovens and floors and store items correctly
• Ensure store rooms are well organised and clean Wash crockery and cutlery or stack dishwasher
• Check the temperature of the fridge and freezer on a daily basis Order food and kitchen equipment
• Take delivery of food
• Ensure that food is used before expiry date Refill Cereal, Sugar containers etc
• Ensure that cleaning rotas are maintained and adhered to
• Take the people that use the service to the dining room(s) (dependent upon service) Hoover dining room (dependent upon service)
• Any other duty as specified by the Chef to assist in ensuring the kitchen runs as smoothly as possible

Essential Criteria

• Basic numeracy & Literacy
• Willingness to work towards an NVQ2 in Catering
• Basic knowledge of Catering & Food Hygiene Regulations
• Basic knowledge on Operation of kitchen equipment
• COSHH / Health and Safety knowledge
• Previous experience in Catering (preferable in a Care Setting desirable but not essential)
