Job summary

Cygnet Wallace Hospital in Scotland is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support meals preparation, kitchen duties, and safe handling of stock and cleaning chemicals.

The role is a 30-hour week on a temporary maternity cover from October 2026 to May 2027, with a focus on hygiene and COSHH compliance. An enhanced PVG check is required.

You will work as part of a team ensuring high standards of cleanliness and effective communication with staff and residents.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing balanced, appetising meals.
• Carry out cooking tasks and other kitchen duties.
• Keep the kitchen, service areas and dining room clean.
• Wash utensils and dishes and store them correctly.
• Rotate stock and put away deliveries.
• Maintain personal hygiene to Cygnet standards and food hygiene levels.
• Handle, maintain and store kitchen equipment to procedures.
• Use chemicals in line with COSHH regulations.

Job description

Kitchen Assistant at Cygnet Wallace Hospital, an 18-bed specialist complex care service for people with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs. The work covers preparing and cooking meals, keeping the kitchen and dining areas clean, and handling stock, equipment and cleaning chemicals. It is a 30-hour week on a shift from 8am to 6pm, on a temporary contract covering maternity leave from October 2026 to May 2027. Successful applicants must pass an enhanced PVG check.
