About the Role

We’re delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a care home in Cardiff, which is looking for an experienced Kitchen Assistant.

If you’re looking for a rewarding chef role that makes a genuine impact – and one where you’re not working late nights or weekends – this is the perfect opportunity.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare healthy, seasonal menus on a 6-month rotation
• Gather feedback from managers and catering teams to improve menus
• Ensure nutritional standards are met in line with best practices
• Oversee daily kitchen operations and maintain hygiene and safety standards
• Support catering staff and assist with recruitment and training
• Conduct regular kitchen audits to ensure full compliance
• Complete and maintain all required kitchen documentation and records
• Work closely with nursery teams to align food service with childcare needs

Requirements:

• Experience working as a chef or cook, ideally in a childcare, school, or care setting
• Strong understanding of nutritional needs for elderly
• Food hygiene and safety qualifications (Level 2 Food Hygiene)
• Excellent kitchen management and organisational skills
• A passion for preparing fresh, wholesome meals in a caring environment
