Join to apply for the Kitchen Assistant role at South Gloucestershire Council.

About the Role

You will be part of a professional catering team at Vinney Green Secure Children’s Home, supporting the delivery of high standards in cleanliness and service. Your responsibilities include assisting with food preparation, meal service, washing up, and ensuring the safe storage of food. Previous catering experience is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided, including Foundation Food Hygiene training.

Key Responsibilities

1. Assist in preparing food and beverages, including special dietary menus, ensuring a safe environment.
2. Support young people in requesting their preferred food options and monitor their eating habits.
3. Maintain cleanliness of food storage and preparation areas, and assist with stock management and quality checks.
4. Follow all Food Hygiene policies and legislation, including temperature monitoring and documentation.
5. Operate catering equipment safely and report concerns to the Duty Cook or Catering Officer.
6. Communicate effectively and demonstrate resilience, as the environment can sometimes be challenging.

Candidate Requirements

1. Patience, tolerance, and understanding working within a secure environment with young people.
2. NVQ Level 1 or willingness to undertake this qualification.
3. Experience in a kitchen setting, including food preparation, service, and cleaning, is preferred.
4. Experience working in a multi-racial environment or with diverse groups.
5. Possession of or willingness to obtain a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
6. Ability to operate mechanical catering equipment, with training provided.

Additional Information

• Flexible working hours, including shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.
• Salary includes a Secure Unit allowance of £2,583 per annum, pro-rated.
• Surveillance cameras are in use for safety reasons.
• An enhanced DBS check is required for employment.
