Job summary

Healthcare Ireland's Orchard Lodge in Armagh is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support daily kitchen operations, meal delivery, and stock handling within a care home setting.

The role focuses on providing high-quality, person-centred dining experiences while respecting dietary needs and ensuring a safe, clean kitchen and servery environment. You will work under the Chef to maintain standards and support residents with meals and service.

Qualifications

  • Previous catering, kitchen or food preparation experience.
  • Good verbal and written English.
  • Right to Work in the UK.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.

Responsibilities

  • Stores and accounts for catering stock and equipment.
  • Delivers meals and catering supplies within the unit.
  • Assists with basic food preparation under direction.
  • Ensures kitchen, catering and servery areas are clean and compliant with standards.
  • Maintains a clean environment throughout the home and complies with regulations.
  • Undertake any other duties designated by the Chef or Cook.

The Home

Orchard Lodge is a wonderfully positioned, purpose-built residential care and nursing home in Armagh. Our home benefits from views of the two local cathedrals and the surrounding city from most of the bedrooms, main lounges and all dining rooms.

Here at Orchard Lodge, we offer professional, person-centred residential and nursing care, as well as specialist care for those living with dementia. We are also registered to provide care for young people with physical disabilities.

All our private, light and spacious bedrooms are fully-furnished, with the benefit of en-suite facilities. Residents are very welcome to bring their own home accessories and furniture, to personalise their space and make it their home. Our facilities are designed to enable residents to be as independent as possible, with the assistance of 24 hour care.

The Role

The Kitchen Assistants in our Homes play a key role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of our kitchens, ensuring that residents receive high quality meals and dining experiences. The role is essential to the wellbeing of our residents through the provision of high-quality, person-centred dining experiences.

Working as part of the Kitchen team, reporting to the Chef the role is about a lot more than preparing and serving meals – the Kitchen Assistant will support with ensuring the dietary needs of our residents are met in addition to contributing to a safe and positive working environment.

About the role

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all catering stock and equipment is correctly stored and accounted for in accordance with the company’s Assured Safe Catering standards.

  • Delivers meals and other catering supplies to various areas within the unit in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Under direction, assists with the basic preparation of food items.

  • Ensures all cleaning within the kitchen, catering and servery areas (as appropriate) is completed and complies with the company’s Assured Safe Catering standards.

  • Delivers and maintains a clean and tidy environment throughout the home, in line with operational standards and ensures that work processes comply with statutory regulations.

  • Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required as designated by the Chef or Cook.
