We are seeking a district-based Key Worker to work within West Essex, with the need to travel across wider Essex to support Young Carers (aged 0-18), young adult carers (16-24), and their families. This is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in Young Carers' lives daily.

Your role will involve providing individualised support related to their caring role, raising achievement and aspirations, and enabling them to have the same life chances as their peers.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Essex young carers and families to identify priorities, support needs, interventions, and goals, developing strategies to meet these. Use assessment and monitoring to motivate young carers and their families to achieve support plans.
  • Handle referrals and work with Essex young carers to identify, understand, and meet their needs, focusing on positive outcomes.
  • Support young carers through various means such as one-to-one, peer group, telephone support, advocacy, information provision, signposting, training, and workshops, ensuring support levels meet their needs.
  • Promote self-awareness, confidence, and involve young carers in designing and evaluating services.
  • Conduct outreach and awareness activities to other agencies, including presentations, workshops, and events, to increase identification of young carers.
  • Collaborate with educational settings and adult services to support young carers, especially during transitions, to continue education, employment, or training.
  • Support development of young carers networks and forums to amplify their voice and influence service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with Essex County Council policies on safeguarding and the welfare of children and young people.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • GCSE level education or equivalent, with relevant professional qualifications related to working with young people (e.g., LDSS, Social Work, Youth & Community, Careers) or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with children and/or young people.
  • Ability to work independently and manage flexible working hours.
  • Flexible, professional approach to meet the needs of young people and the service.
  • Understanding of issues affecting young carers and young people, learning opportunities, and partner services.
  • Experience working with young people individually and in groups.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience in collaborative working with local agencies.
  • Experience involving young people and families in decision-making processes.

Please note: The role requires mobility across the operational area. A driving licence and access to a vehicle, or alternative mobility solutions, are necessary.
