Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for aKey Account Managerto join the Sales team at Michael Joseph.

Michael Joseph specialises in commercial fiction and non-fiction, publishing bestselling titles in the genres of women’s fiction, crime, thriller, cookery, memoir, and lifestyle. We are home to authors including Stephen Fry, Raynor Winn, Nadiya Hussain, Dr Julie Smith, Marian Keyes and Jodi Picoult.

The opportunity:

We’re looking for a commercially-savvy and proactive Key Account Managerto join the sales team on a 12-month contract (could be considered a secondment opportunity for internal candidates), working on accounts like Tesco and WHS Travel.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving sales through some of our key accounts and work closely with the Michael Joseph division as well as production and inventory. They will take a proactive approach to analysing the market and offer recommendations to the Sales Manager to help inform strategic decisions, such as scheduling.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a passion for sales, an eye for detail and maintains a customer-centric mindset.

Key responsibilities:

  • W ork collaboratively and creatively with buyers and booksellers to build a successful relationship with these key retail partners.
  • Proactively feeding your expert market knowledge back into the division and working with key stakeholders to influence and drive strategy across the business.
  • Presenting key titles to the mass market and securing support for relevant titles.
  • Engaging with sales, marketing, publicity and editorial teams, as well as other UK account managers, in order to maximise sales opportunities and to help connect readers with our authors, brands and books.
  • Reporting and analysing sales data and contributing to relevant divisional meetings

What you’ll bring

Essential criteria:

  • Solid commercial background in sales or retail
  • Proven experience managing customer relationships and accounts, ideally within a retail or publishing environment.
  • A passion for publishing and demonstrable interest in working specifically for Michael Joseph
  • Strong presentation skills. The ability to influence.
  • Commercial acumen and sales analysis skills
  • An attention to detail

Preferred criteria:

  • Direct experience working with supermarkets is advantageous but not essential.

Salary

Circa £43,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.
