The role of a police constable can be demanding but it's that variety which makes it one of the most rewarding jobs around. Every day presents a new challenge and you'll deal with different situations, ensuring public order is maintained at all times.

You'll be responsible for protection of life and property as well as prevention and detection of crime. Working as part of a close team, you'll help to serve and protect the diverse communities and businesses of Kent.

Join #TeamKent as a police officer and you'll receive a starting salary of £32,907 (which includes £3,000 South East allowance).

To join our Initial Police Constable Entry Programme (PCEP), you will need to meet these eligibility criteria:
  • be over 18 (you can apply at 17 and start work when you turn 18) - there is no upper age limit
  • be a British citizen, an EC/EEA national or a Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with no restrictions on your stay in the United Kingdom. You will need to have lived in the UK continuously for the past 3 years (unless a serving with UK armed forces)
  • be in good health, including fitness and eyesight
  • have no criminal record, although some offences may be considered which will be reviewed when you apply
  • obtained a level 3 qualification or able to demonstrate relevant experience or training that can be considered equivalent to a level 3 qualification
You will also be eligible if you meet one of these criteria:

  1. you are an Kent Police member of staff, a PCSO or special constable who have passed their probationary period
  2. you have a minimum of 3 years' service with the armed forces and have achieved an exemplary reference on discharge


We have agreed intake sizes for each of our entry routes. If oversubscribed, it may be necessary for us to make changes to your entry route to secure your optimum joining date. If this is the case, we will contact you.

All of our posts require a level of vetting and security clearance. During the recruitment process you will be sent vetting information forms to complete.
