Britt Animal Hospital is located in Birmingham, Alabama, and was established in 1976. We are a full-service small animal hospital treating everything from emergency cases to wellness visits, medical, surgical, and dental issues. We provide a wide array of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and external laboratory testing. Position: Kennel Assistant

The Kennel Assistant is responsible for providing a clean, efficient, and healthy environment for the animals being treated or boarded at the hospital. A day in the life of a Kennel Assistant includes:

  1. Maintaining cleanliness of the hospital, including kennel areas, runs, treatment areas, and outside grounds.
  2. Feeding hospitalized animals and boarders.
  3. Monitoring and recording important information about the animals’ conditions, behavior, and habits (elimination, eating, etc.).
  4. Walking animals three times a day.
  5. Notifying the Doctor or Veterinary Assistant of any unusual medical or behavioral problems.
  6. Cleaning treatment, exam, surgery, and lab areas daily.
  7. Maintaining laundry throughout the day and keeping the laundry area neat.
  8. Assisting the Doctor and Veterinary Technicians/Assistants with restraint and treatment of animals.
  9. Monitoring and maintaining the kennel inventory, including food, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, etc.
  10. Performing other duties as assigned to support the clinic's operations and client care.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Flexible schedule, including some weekend/holiday shifts.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication skills, good judgment, and ability to manage stressful situations.
  • Physical and mental capacity to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Previous experience as a kennel technician preferred.
