Global Technology @ Berenberg

In an era where digitalisation and modern IT infrastructure are revolutionizing banking, we are shaping a technology-driven bank. As an IT professional, you will work closely with our business units. Our technology teams offer an environment with exciting challenges, including supporting and developing legacy systems and introducing modern technologies such as AI, machine learning, and highly automated trading applications.

Our Technology department, comprising around 300 employees, works largely in an agile manner using a Scrumban approach. It covers areas such as Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Operations, Process and Governance, Software Development, and Architecture. We develop most of our applications in-house, providing us with flexibility and innovative strength. Our tech stack includes Java, Kotlin, TypeScript, Python, CI/CD pipelines, containers, Kubernetes, Azure Cloud, Azure SQL Database, and Oracle Database with PL/SQL.

Your Role in the team:

This role focuses on Kubernetes (K8s), requiring a DevOps mindset and experience. You will be involved in designing, setting up, and managing our K8s clusters across various data centers. We are building a value-added on-premises, bare-metal K8s platform (with potential cloud expansion) to support workloads ranging from latency-sensitive algo trading to big data analytics, middle and back-office applications, and client and exchange gateways.

What will you do?

  • Collaborate closely with data center infrastructure and network engineers, overlapping with monitoring and observability domains.
  • Work within a DevOps approach involving code review, automated testing, and release pipelines.
  • Operate in an environment protected by Privileged Access Management (PAM).

Who are we looking for?

  • Unix/Linux experience (Ubuntu & Red Hat)
  • Proficiency with K8s (administration and best practices), Calico Enterprise (desirable)
  • Networking knowledge, especially TCP/IP, routes, routing tables, VLAN/VRF, BGP
  • Skills in Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform, Helm, and Git
  • Experience working in a DevOps environment with code review, automated testing, and release pipelines
  • Experience with environments protected by PAM

What we offer you:

  • Private pension plan - 10% of base salary contribution by Berenberg
  • Generous 30-day holiday allowance
  • Private Health Insurance
  • Life Insurance scheme
  • Flexible working hours
  • Enhanced parental leave policies
  • Employee Assistance Programme for mental health, financial wellbeing, and other topics
