Our dedication is demonstrated by the whole council achievement of the Investors in People Standard and always aiming a little higher in our service delivery and improvements.

Position: Justice Assistant
Hours: 36 hours per week.

West Lothian Council reserves the right to close this post early depending on applicant response levels.

West Lothian Council Justice Services have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Justice Assistant to the Assess & Connect Team (ACT). We support young people, aged 10 to 16 years of age, who are involved in an early pattern of antisocial behavior and/or are at risk of exploitation within the community. ACT offers support for a period of 3 to 6 months with the overarching aim of disrupting patterns of concern and reconnecting our young people with universal services. There will be the opportunity to engage in 1-1 work and group work within this post. We also take a contextual safeguarding approach to the work we undertake, looking at the spaces that young people occupy as part of our risk assessment. Occasional evening and weekend work is part of the job role for which appropriate shift remuneration is paid.

Whilst this post is primarily based within the Assess & Connect Team, the successful applicant will also have an opportunity to utilize their skills within wider Justice Services.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Significant experience of direct service user work in a health, social care or justice setting.
  • Ability to work constructively with difficult and challenging people using authority appropriately.
  • Proven experience of working in partnership with other services.
  • Ability to understand and work within legislative and procedural frameworks.
  • Ability to communicate to a high standard in written and verbal form.

This post is considered Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scotland Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
