Job description

Job Description – Mylor Chandlery & Rigging
Title: Junior Yacht Rigger
Reports to:Rigging Manager & Company Director
Based at:Mylor Chandlery & Rigging, Mylor Yacht Harbour

Job Description:

To carry out all yacht rigging services on both private and commercial yachts, including architectural rigging, working closely with clients to ensure their yachts are well maintained and seaworthy.

Key Duties:

  • The lifting and moving of heavy objects, working at height and operation of manual lifting machinery.
  • Undertake the towing of yachts using the company launch in a safe and proficient manner.
  • Utilisation of Kudos Workshop Software to help manage workload in the rigging department.
  • To undertake the servicing, maintenance, and replacement of standing & running rigging.
  • To manufacture mooring strops as required, as well as any other splicing work according to demand.
  • To assist in stepping and un-stepping of masts.
  • To assist in the servicing of winches and Furler’s.
  • To assist in the bending and unbending of sails.
  • To work interdepartmentally with colleagues at Mylor Yacht Harbour to undertake electrical or engineering work.
  • To work overtime or irregular hours during peak season demand, if required.

Desired Skills:

  • A basic understanding and practical experience of marine engineering.
  • A good understanding of maritime bylaws.
  • Previous experience of boat handling and motorboat operation.
  • Previous rope splicing skills would be advantageous.
  • Good team working skills and an ability to follow and understand management decisions.
  • An ability to work confidently when unsupervised.
  • The ideal candidate should be highly efficient in their work, be time aware and have an excellent ability to work under pressure and to demanding deadlines.
  • It would be beneficial to have a good understanding of the products we sell.
  • A willingness to learn would also be a significant advantage.

Required Skills:

  • To have a good knowledge of yachting/sailing industry.
  • A good understanding of how to use a variety of tools.
  • A very high level of customer service.
  • A full clean UK driving license.

Salary: £8.72-£9.00 per hour Depending on Experience.
